THORAME BASSE or rather Thorame sur Issole, is a mountain commune directly north of Saint Andre les Alpes. Covering a vast 9772 hectares of traditional agricultural land, woodland and pasture it is sparsely populated with only 150 inhabitants in its five hamlets, but hopes to add holiday makers and tourism to its traditions.

The area occupies the upper basin of the Issole river. The CD 2, which you take north from Saint Andre les Alpes, is the only road crossing the river and travelling through the beautiful valley, winding through woods and varied scenery you are in a fisherman’s paradise.

12 kilometres later the basin widens from east to west and the warm sunny exposure favours the natural environment, which includes a flora and fauna of great diversity. The mountain countryside at an average altitude of 1100 meters, rising to 2400 at its highest, is very beautiful.
